Shikaku Daily: Privacy Policy

Last updated: 19 October 2026

Shikaku Daily is a puzzle game for Android made by HydroZeppelin, an independent developer ("I", "me"). This page explains what information the game uses, why, and what you can do about it. It is written to be read, so it is short.

In brief: the game has no ads, no analytics and no tracking. The only information it sends to me is what is needed to put your puzzle times on the daily leaderboards.

What the game sends to its server

When you finish one of the day's puzzles, the game sends the following to the game's own server so that your time can appear on that day's leaderboard:

WhatDetails
A player IDIf you have not signed in, this is an ID worked out on your device from the identifier Android gives each app on each device. It is scrambled before it leaves your phone, so the game's server never receives the Android identifier itself, and it cannot be matched with any other app. It stays the same if you reinstall the game, which is what stops one person appearing on a leaderboard several times. It is not linked to your name, email address or any account. If you have signed in to Google Play Games, your Play Games player ID is used instead.
A display nameIf you have not signed in, a name made up by the game (such as "BraveSquare56"). If you have signed in, your Play Games gamer name. A supporter's chosen pet is sent with the name so that it can be shown beside it.
Your puzzle timesHow long each puzzle took, which puzzle it was, and the date.

Your display name and times are shown to other players on the leaderboards. Nothing else about you is shown, and the server does not receive your email address, real name, location, contacts, advertising ID or any device identifier other than the scrambled player ID described above.

When the game shows you a leaderboard, it sends your player ID so the server can find your place on the board. Fetching the day's puzzles sends nothing about you.

The server is hosted by Cloudflare. Like any web service, Cloudflare processes the IP address your device connects from in order to deliver the response. I do not store IP addresses or use them to identify anyone.

Google services the game uses

The game uses the following Google services. Google handles the information involved under Google's own privacy policy.

ServiceWhat it is used for
Google Play Games (optional)If you choose to sign in, the game uses your Play Games player ID and gamer name as described above, and keeps a copy of your records (streak, finished days, best times and settings) in your own Google account so they follow you to a new phone. If you do not sign in, none of this happens.
Google Play BillingThe optional Supporter Pack is bought through Google Play. Google processes the payment. I never see your payment details; the game is only told whether your Google account owns the pack.
Android backupIf backup is switched on in your phone's settings, Android may keep a copy of the game's saved data (records, settings and progress) in your own Google account and restore it when you reinstall the game.

What stays on your device

Your progress, streak, records, settings and downloaded puzzles are stored on your device. They are removed when you uninstall the game or clear its data.

If you allow notifications, the game may remind you once in the evening when you have not yet played that day's puzzles. The reminder is set on your phone by the phone itself, from your progress on the phone: nothing is sent to a server for it. You can turn it off in the game's settings or in your phone's settings.

What the game does not do

The game checks whether your device has an internet connection, only so that it can tell you when it cannot load the day's puzzles because you are offline.

Reporting a problem

The "report a problem" option in the game's settings opens your own email app with a message addressed to me. The message is pre-filled with the game's version, your Android version, the puzzle date and your player ID, to help me find the problem. Nothing is sent unless you choose to send the email, and you can edit it first.

How long information is kept

Your times on each day's leaderboards are deleted from the server automatically about a week after that day, and your player ID and display name go with them once none of your times are left. So a week after you last played, the server holds nothing about you. You can also ask for deletion sooner (see below). Information in your Google account is kept there until you delete it or Google removes it under its own policies.

Your choices and rights

Children

The game is suitable for general audiences and collects no more information from any player than is described above. It is not directed at children under 13, and I do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact me and I will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If the game changes in a way that affects this policy, I will update this page and the date at the top.
